In the month of may 2005, I underwent four operations at Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore. My doctor, Dr. Rajshekharan is a very very nice man and an excellent surgeon. He takes good care of his patients.
On the 5th of June I underwent two surgeries on my right leg. The operation went on smoothly and I recovered very fast. Immediately on the 13th of June, eight days after, I had two operations on my left leg. The operation was scheduled at 1.00 pm. I was kept hungry from 6.00 am. There were many patients so I was taken into the operation recovery room at 12.30 pm. I was still wearing the operation gown. My mother and grandmother were sitting outside.
As soon as my operation was to start an emergency case came in. A small girl who had met with an accident was brought in. They put me on the side table and began to operation on her. I could not see what was actually happening behind the green curtain but could see the blood and hear the doctors talking. I was feeling very scared. One aunty suddenly asked me my name and I fell asleep before answering her.
After I got up next I was out of the operation theatre in front of my mother and grandmother. I told them everything after two days. Now also sometimes I shudder when I think of those moments in the operation theatre. I was so helpless and could not express my feelings to anybody. I actually came to know what really happens in an operation and it made me braver and stronger. I can never forget my sixteen days in Ganga hospital all my life. |
