Class 6B was known for mischievous acts. This class had witty pranksters and cunning tricksters.
It was a cool December day, the fan was not on and gentle breeze came from the window. This was the ideal time for all mischief makers to doze or read comics. It was the history lesson and Mr. Malhotra was teaching about the administration during the Maurya dynasty. No one was paying attention until there was a sound: ‘Hic, hic, hic’. It was Jay, he was having hiccups. At once the whole class woke up.
Then Sir came and asked, “Jay, are you having hiccups.” Then a boy got up. His name was Abhishekh. He said, “Let us give him a glass of water”.
Jus then Ajay stood up and said “No sir, someone should just shake him”. Then finally I got up and said, “No, no guys, let’s frighten him.”
The teacher said, “Don’t talk, let him just drink from his water bottle.” Then Ajay stood up and took Jay’s water bottle and started pouring the water in his mouth. From the other side, Sachin started shaking him. Poor Jay, began choking. He was feeling so uncomfortable that he wanted to scream but since water was being poured in his mouth, he couldn’t say anything. But still the hiccups didn’t stop. After that, finally Vijay and I shouted, “Boo”. He got scared and his hiccups finally stopped.
At that moment, the Principal entered their class. He said, “What’s going on in this class?”
I stood up and replied, “Sir, Jay had hiccups and we were trying to stop them.”
Principal Sir said, “You just shut up, Pauus, I am asking your teacher.” Then Mr. Malhotra replied, “Sir, it all happened exactly as he said.”
Principal Sir turned to us and said, “You haven’t paid attention to the lesson he was teaching,” he said pointing towards our history Sir.
“So your punishment is to write an essay of 300 words about the administration in Maurya dynasty five times.”
We all wrote the essay cursing Jay and his hiccups and our attempts to cure them. However, the entire episode had one positive outcome - there was a long question on Maurya administration and we got good marks in the final exam.
