(Original story- Washer-man’s Donkey)
Once upon a time there lived a merchant who owned a donkey. Everyday he would put loads on the donkey’s back and take him to the nearby market. One day the load was far too heavy than usual. The donkey could not carry the heavier load. But the merchant scolded and hit him with a stick. So the donkey had to carry it. While crossing the river the donkey slipped and fell into it. He got hurt badly and started howling and crying with pain. The merchant brought him back home. Now for several days the donkey would not be able to work. The merchant grew worried about how he would carry the goods to the market. His son saw that his father was so worried. So he went to him and said, “ I will help you father. Tomorrow, let us carry the loads to the market together. The merchant felt so happy. Next day, they both put the load on their backs and tried to carry it together. The child was small and so he hurt his back and foot. The merchant felt so sorry. He realized that he had been cruel to the donkey. He should not have put such heavy loads on the donkey’s back.
