Caravan to Tibet is a story set in the midst of the unending landscapes of Tibet-the land of the Buddha. When Debu finds that his father has not returned from Tibet he is heartbroken. But he takes the news bravely and begins to look after his younger brother and mother with responsibility. He and his family members have not lost hope and their hope turns to strong belief when Debu sees the amulet his father used to wear on a Tibetan man’s neck. The man tells him that he had bought the amulet at Gartok-a busy city in Tibet.
Debu sets off to Tibet in the next caravan determined not to come back without his father. It is now that the excitement begins as Debu first is accepted by the lama as his special friend and then is whisked away by a gang of robbers. The robber leader Nangbo is said to have magical powers, which keeps him from escaping from there. He grows impatient when the search for his father slows down uncontrollably. And when he does get away it seems all in vain when he has to stay in the goldfields. And then the thrills and chills begin and remain unending until the fantastic ending which has a breathtaking horse race.
This book has all that is needed to make a masterpiece. It has characters ranging from the loving Debu to the surly Trilok. It has humor and suspense and most of all it describes the emotional relationship a young boy has with his family members.
