I was returning from my friend’s house with my mother, when I heard a faint ‘meow’ sound. The sound was coming from the lift. I went near the lift but my mother said, “Come on now, it’s too late.” I hesitated to go.
Just outside the lift was a little ball of fur. I picked it up, put it in my bag and ran up the stairs at top speed. Once home, I opened my bag and took out the little ball.
It meowed! Then I realised, it wasn’t a ball but a kitten! It had a light orange, black and white coat. It also had folded ears. It was meowing piteously. I washed it and took a blanket to warm it up. I called it Ginger Liquorice, which means ginger-flavoured liquorice sweets.
The next day without telling anyone, I took it to school. The first thing, my friend Ishita told me was, “I got a pet yesterday. But, no one gave it to me. I found it on the stairs. It is a white dog with black spots. Its name is Tanni.” Then my partner Pall told me, “I found a rabbit on the stairs. His name is Browny.” I said, “I have got one too,” and showed it to them. Then I said, “Some one must have dumped it there.” They showed me their pets too. We brought them up.
We three, with our pets form the first animal-human team to protect animals. I still have Ginger Liquorice. It is a cat now. It is slender, sleek and soft. If you want to see it, come to my house. We have made a place called the ‘Pet Home’. Lost and sick animals are brought here and are taken care of.
Bye for now!!!
