Folk of the Faraway
Tree
by
Anush Joshi, Age 7
Today
I want to talk about a book written by Enid Blyton. My mummy and I read it
together. It’s called, ‘The Folk of the Faraway Tree’. Every page makes me
smile, every character makes me want to meet him/her and every adventure makes
my eyes light up. I start living in their world. It’s sad when I have to come
back.
This book talks about a huge magical tree with wonderful and different lands at
the top which keep changing. It has weird people who do funny things on the
tree. The book is mix of real and magical people. What was wonderful about Enid
Blyton was that, she thought as a child, and so wrote as a child. I think she
was always a child. And that’s the secret of her wonderful stories.
The Princess With
the Longest Hair
by Tammana Mohta, Age 10
This
book is written by Komilla Ratoe, illustrated by Vandana Bist and published by
Katha Books. It is a story about a princess who had very long hair. Her name was
Parinita.
Parinita lived in a palace, but wanted to go out of the palace but she couldn’t
go. So one day she ran away from the palace. She runs towards the hills. While
going to the hill Parinita helped a poor woman, a fisherman and a cow by giving
a handful hair to everyone. The woman made blanket, the fisherman made net to
catch fish and the cow made a shade.
I like the story because the story teaches us that we should be kind and
helpful. I want to be a princess like Parinita but I don’t want to be locked up.
I want to be free like Parinita. I like this book very much.
The Blue Umbrella
by Yash Khurana, Age 6
The
Blue Umbrella’ is a story about a girl called Binya and her umbrella.
She got it from a rich woman. She liked that umbrella so much that she wanted to
keep it with her forever. But Ram Bharosa wanted the umbrella.
In the end Binya gave the umbrella to Ram Bharosa. He gave it back to her but
she said he could keep it.
I liked the story because Binya was very nice and kind. She was not selfish. She
played in nature. I liked that she had cows and she let them go wherever they
wanted. She played with the umbrella all the time. She bravely saved it when it
got stuck in the cliff.
I enjoyed the story.
Jack and the
Beanstalk
by Raj Mehta, Age 8
Jack and
the Beanstalk is a book written by Suzy Jane Taner. It is a book about a poor
boy called Jack who had to sell his cow for money but got magical beans instead.
He had no money now. His mother scolded him and threw the beans away. A
beanstalk grows in the morning. Jack climbs and climbs it to reach the top. He
saw a huge castle in the clouds.
It is very fascinating to read that Jack saw a huge castle on the clouds. You
actually don’t see real castles in the real clouds. The castle was very big,
huge, dangerous and enormous. I felt a little afraid. My favorite part is when
the giant snores so loudly that the castle begin to shake. Finally, Jack is able
to get a hen who lays golden eggs, coins of gold and a harp who sings on its
own. The story is full of magic and I would also wish to be in that kind of a
world for some days.
Horton Hatches
The Egg
by Aara Sheth, Age 8
This
is a story of a lazy bird who lays an egg and then goes for a vacation. She asks
an elephant to sit on her egg before she goes away. The elephant sits on her egg
through the winter and rain but the bird never came back and then the elephant
hatches the egg.
I liked the book because the elephant
was good, helpful and faithful. The book is very funny, we laugh a lot. The
funniest part of the book is when the egg hatches and an elephant-bird flies out
of the egg. But there’s a sad part too. I feel sorry for the elephant when he
has to sit through the winter and rain. He looks so tired, cold and unwell. I
don’t like the bird. I would never want to be like her because she was lazy. And
the elephant inspires me to be helpful and faithful.
