I am talking about Kesariya Bana, written by Nimish Dubey and published by Ponytale Books an imprint of Bridging Borders. The mission statement of Ponytale books itself offers a refreshing read: ”Our aim is to publish quality books in an Indian context that will not only entertain and inform but will also subtly educate about universal values, Indian history, culture and tradition in a rapidly globalizing world. Touché!” The book offers eight stories taken from history which are recreated for the child of today. Each tale, which is carefully chosen, ends with the summary of the actual incident gives the child the historical perspective. The cover and inside
illustrations, design of the book and the production values are excellent.
Another pleasing aspect about the book is that the short resume of Abhijit
Chatterjee who has done the cover illustration as well as Vinod Gupta who has
carried out the inside illustrations has been given. This is a trend that should
be followed by other publishers too. October 27, 2007 |
