by Aniket Kumar (11 years)

  • The world’s fastest reptile (measured on land) is the spiny-tailed iguana of Costa Rica. It has been clocked at 21.7 mph.
  • An adult crow needs 11 ounces of food each day.
  • If the great horned owl were to be totally stripped of its feathers, the naked bird would weigh less than its feathers.
  • In spite of their name, sea cucumbers are animals from the same
family as sea urchins and starfish.

Funda of Fundas

Hatchet Fish - This marine fish gets its name because its deep body is shaped a bit like a small axe, or hatchet. These tiny fish are no bigger than 10cm. They have silver-colored bodies, and their shiny sides reflect light from the surface.

There are at least 45 different species of hatchet fish found in warm waters throughout the world. They are deep sea dwellers and live at the bottom of the oceans at depths of 400-1,200 metres.
