Your Special Valentine
by Ramendra Kumar

February 14, Valentine’s Day – the day when the world pauses to feel, think and live one single emotion – LOVE!

SMS missives, greeting cards, emails, gifts, contests, prizes, discounts, bonanzas – there is a virtual blitzkrieg as, LOVE as a consumer product is unleashed on the willing as well as the not so willing. I strongly believe, in all this hype and hoopla, the essence of Valentine’s Day is forgotten – unconditional love.

Look I am not saying we should not enjoy the Day – celebrate it with enthusiasm and energy. We should definitely do. But in the blitz the Belief should not get smothered – the Belief in love in its pure and pristine form.

This year I invite you to celebrate Feb. 14 differently. Look around you and select the person who is lonely, the one who needs your care and concern the most and make him your Valentine. He or she may be an old man or woman in your neighborhood, the urchin who lives in the slum, the rag-picker, the maid servant, the boy who slogs in the tea-stall, the tender girl who works in a glass factory, the widower who sits alone in the park – give him or her your most precious possession – your time. Light up his/her moments and create new memories. Make this Valentine’s Day a truly memorable one for you and your Special Valentine!

Happy Valentine’s Day.
