Poems
Remembrance
by Kumud Biswas

I cannot remember my mum
But when I go to play
A lilting tune whispers in my ears
Words once spoken by my mum
Seem to echo in my play.
She must have sung lullabies
When rocking my cradle
She is gone
But she has left her song behind.

I cannot remember my mum
But when in the month of Aswin
The sheuli flowers bloom
And their scent floats in the morning air
Wet with dew
The memory of my mum floats in my mind.
She used to bring those flowers in a tray
So I smell my mum
In the scents of festive seasons.

I cannot remember my mum
But when I sit in the corner of the bedroom
And look at the sky through the window
It seems
My mum is gazing at me without winking
She used to hold me on her lap
And kept on looking at me
She has left
Leaving that look in the skies.

Transcreation of the poem Mone-para by Rabidranath Tagore.
