Keeping Alive the
Child in You
by
Ramendra Kumar
First
few days of the new year are time for making resolutions. I am sure most you too
would making a few of your own. I want you to make one resolution and yes, stick
to it.
No, no I won’t be
asking you to study more, play less, clean up your rooms, get up on time etc
etc. These nuggets of advice, I leave it for the many adults in your life to
give you.
I only request you make a resolution to keep alive the child in you throughout
the year and the years beyond. I can see a puzzled frown on your face. But we
are children aren’t we? Yes, you are. But how many of you have managed to retain
the childlike wonder, enthusiasm and innocence. Just look at your four year old
kid brother or sister. Watch him/her play with a lump of clay. He/she can do so
for hours, completely absorbed in the moment, not bothered about the past or the
future – just living in the present.
No, no I am not asking you to search for lumps of clay and get your hands dirty.
(Even if you do it I won’t mind provided you are enjoying it) I am only pleading
with you to have fun, to live every moment fully. I have always been telling
adults to develop the mindset of kids, now I am having to tell children to stop
behaving like bonsai versions of adults. As you grow older do not allow the
child in you to wither away. And the only way you can do is to start practicing
NOW.
To help you do that I am bringing you an article Don’t Manage
Time, Enjoy It.
As a special new year treat I have for you a delightful fairy
tale by the legendary writer Manoj Das. A craftsman who has delighted
